Cowboy

Ah football season. I know it has long since passed for most of you....but here in Okinawa we are just getting started. And what perfect timing! The weather is just now dipping low enough to toss on a warm sweater. In fact, I've had to break out my long wool trench coat just to sit through practices! GOOD TIMES!! Anyway, enough of that...here are pictures from Bobby's first game (Wednesday night). I don't think they won, but who really keeps track in flag football? And my apologies for the terrible photo quality. Wouldn't you know it? My batteries died after the first few minutes, so these are camera phone photos. No worries, it won't happen again!

Rain On My Parade

Friday night was the Tinsel Town Parade. All the kids except for Cindy walked. It would had been terribly fun had it not started to rain just as it began. The photos aren't great by any means, but they are photos none the less. Enjoy.

Happy Birthday my friend...

Thanksgiving

The last weekend has been nothing if not eventful, but I've decided to break it up between posts as there is just far too much to fit into one blog. So Let's begin with Thanksgiving.

We headed over to J.G. and A.J.'s for the afternoon. There were only four families, but we added up to 23. We had SOOOOOOO MUCH FOOD. It was crazy. A.J. harnessed the kids and let them try out his climbing wall. (No I didn't take any photos, but K.L. did....so soon people). We all ate way too much and then each fell into our own respective food comas.

After we all regained consciousness we did a quick clean up and then A.J. broke out the cards and poker chips. He had to explain the rules of Texas Hold 'Em a good three times before J.J., T.J., and I felt comfortable enough to try a hand (K.L. had no problem as she is an avid Celebrity Poker watcher and if R.L. needed lessons he never did elude to that fact).

So the games began. We had was a blast, played twice, J.G. won the first game, R.L. the second. Believe it or not I held on for a good while during both games. (I'm so proud). After that we loaded up and left.

It was late, we were tired, and I wanted nothing more than to unload the leftovers, put everything away, crawl into bed, and crash.

Veggie Burger Please!

I think I may have the youngest member of PETA living in my home.

As we speak I am browning hamburger for Taco Salad. Since Cindy and Bobby are the only two home at the moment I was letting them hand me the vegetables to cut up. Somewhere in between the lettuce and tomato Bobby looked into the skillet on the stove and asked what "that" was. I told him it was hamburger...I said "It's a cow." WHAT!! The boy went ballistic. "Why are we eating a cow?" "Who killed that cow?" "Farmer's are supposed to take care of the cows, not kill them!" And my personal favorite..."Cows stink, but people shouldn't kill them!" Oh the mind of a five year old.

I tried to explain to Bobby that cows make up the hamburgers he eats at Burger King. That I put it in our Spaghetti, "Cowboy Stuff" and Chili. I told him that steak was cow, hotdogs were pigs and all that chicken we eat REALLY is chicken. I honestly thought I would win him over on the Burger King thing. Nope...the child has sworn off all meat (including his precious hotdogs).

So now I suppose I will be dishing out a bowl of taco salad minus the taco. And the veggie burger patties that I bought for Jaz when she eats over here, will now be put to good use on Bobby.

Hmmmmm. Jaz would be proud. And farmer's everywhere shed a tear for another child lost.

Your Band is Named What???

If I've been waiting for something terribly interesting to come along worth blogging about...last night it probably happened.

My friend M.C. is BIG BIG BIG on karaoke. Me? Not S'Much! Now, anyone who has heard me sing may very well think me a liar right about now, but the truth is every time I walk into a karaoke bar and open my mouth one of three things happens. One, the people I'm rollin' with decide not to sing in front of me, two...20 people in the bar ask if I will sing a duet with them, or three...everyone leaves. This does not make for an interesting evening. Thankfully I have indeed come across a precious few that are willing just to have a good time and sing regardless of talent (this can be a bad thing if you're not careful!)

Anyhow, last night M.C. and I are chillin' in the back of the room...minding our own business (which really means cringing at the screeches coming from the speakers) when Bring Me to Life by EVANESCENCE Feat. PAUL MCCOY cues up. Obviously the guy singing the Paul McCoy portion of this song didn't plan ahead because there was absolutely NO ONE prepared to pull off Amy Lee. Oddly enough, this guy points across the room at me and asks if I can sing at all..."Skoshi" (a little) I said. "Cool, whatever...just come sing this please!" No worries...I got this. So I grab the mic and start singing at which point this guys mouth drops open and a hush falls over the room. I must admit this is ALWAYS my favorite part. It makes me giggle a little.

So we sing and the song comes to an end. The "Paul McCoy" guy bows to me (which I find a bit odd), then I quietly walk back to my little hole in the wall. Now this is where things get interesting...The next thing I know there is this HUGE guy towering over me. He is dressed completely in black, has a scraggly goatee, black fingernails, and piercings EVERYWHERE! I have to admit I was a little freaked out at first (and I am rarely freaked out). He introduces himself as Thomas and quickly apologizes for approaching me like that. Then he proceeds to tell me that he's the lead singer of a band called Slit Throat (eeeewwwww!!!) and hands me a card with his name and website on it. He tells me I have an amazing voice and that they've been looking for someone to sing melody in their band, and I am exactly what they've been searching for. OOOOOOOO-KAY.

I guess they are playing at 7th Heaven in a few weeks and he wants me to drop in and hear them. I'm flattered, a little weirded out, but flattered. I suppose I'll drop by and give a listen. Who knows. It might be fun just to sing along for a bit. Hehehe, giggling at the thought.

If nothing else it's made for a slightly amusing blog. This should make my grandmother very happy as she now doesn't have to PLEAD and BEG for me to write something....anything. Good Times!

Sad and Pathetic

I know I haven't posted in a while (thanks to all of you who harass me about that daily!) but I really just haven't felt creative enough lately to bother writing. No worries, I am writing now. And if you're lucky this will light the creative fire under my rear!!

My big worry today? It is the middle of November, and usually I am FINISHED with my holiday shopping by now, but as of this moment I've only purchased ONE GIFT! AAAAHHHHH!!!! With all my heart I hope Al has been shopping in the states. If all else fails on Christmas morning I will be telling the kids that "this year we wanted to focus on the MEANING of Christmas". Which we all know will be the load of bull explaining the no gifts under the tree! HA HA! So I guess this weekend I need to get a little shopping done...Ya think?!

Along with my hurry to purchase gifts I also need to get to the commissary. My luck, all the turkey and ham will be long gone by the time I get there. Last night Jan asked if I could make mashed potatoes for her class party on Tuesday. Tuesday? Surly she didn't mean THIS Tuesday. Why on earth would her class be having their Thanksgiving party so danged early this year? OH MY GAWD!!!! Thanksgiving is NEXT WEEK! It always seems to sneak up on you, doesn't it? One minute you think you have all the time in the world to accomplish something, and the next the time is not only upon you, but shoving itself down your throat (lovely picture!)

So yeah, I've lost the list from the "inner circles" planning meeting as to what I am bringing to Thanksgiving dinner this year. I suppose I will need to call J.G. for that today. And then I'll have to give K.L. a ring and we can do the commissary run together (because I know full well that the woman hasn't gotten any more shopping done than I). I am going on great faith that they still have green beans and rolls.

The new tradition as of this year? Pumpkin Curry. Yep, it sounds disgusting, but I swear to you is absolutely fabulous. I can make some KILLER pumpkin curry. Unfortunately J.J., J.G., and K.L. agree, so now I am on curry duty as well. HEY, maybe I can come up with an egg nog curry recipe before Christmas! Hmmmm....not s' much!

I simply can not believe that the holidays are upon us. By this time next week Christmas music will fill our house and the kids and I will sit surrounded by the 7 boxes of holiday decorations (yes people, I said 7...I know I have a problem). I love love love Christmas. Laughing about old Christmas memories, having the kids hang the ornaments from Christmases past and having them each open their ornaments for this year (which I still need to purchase). I just usually am a bit more prepared for this time of year.

Maybe it is just because we have been so busy. Not bad "can't make a meal, clean the house, or BLOG" kinda busy. Just....busy. We have practices Monday through Thursday, but none overlap to the point that I am trying to juggle. In the evenings the kids and I are at that table eating together. And we still have plenty of time to do homework, chores, and showers with some down time. We aren't rushed, just healthily busy. (Again, falling back on the "not creative as of late" excuse for the BLOG!)

So with any luck this weekend will be a fruitful one. I'll finish (or rather begin) my Christmas shopping, seal and mail those Christmas cards, run to the commissary, blog a little, and maybe even mow the lawn!

Monday I'll fill ya in on how it all went! EEEEEK!!

My Spat

Well, well, well. THAT was a lot of fun. Nothing like a little online spat to scare folks away. I'm sure it was terribly shocking for everyone out there to find that I can indeed be a bi@#ch from time to time. No worries...my halo is still intact (she said while batting her eyelashes).

Nothing much is happening here on my little rock in the East China Sea. I spend my days with K.L. while R.L. is at work (it's the only time we have), and I spend my nights reading, writing, and listening to my I-POD...woo hoo! (sounds exciting....yes?)

The kids are well. We're still waiting to hear if the younger boys have football coaches yet...and Jan is waiting to hear from her cheer squad as well (OH the drama). This month is pretty much a bust as far as school goes. They only have class 2 days this week...and with Thanksgiving, I really don't think they've much to accomplish. Ridiculous.

I'm basiclly just preppin' for the holidays, chillin' with my girlfriends, and trying (once again) to quell the accumulation that is Mt. Washme.

Life is good, all is well, and the world continues to turn!

My Apology

I have an amazing husband.

He is gentle and caring, loving and kind. He never purposely says anything to hurt me. He loves our children. He is helpful, supportive, and strong. He has always been open and willing to share his thoughts with me. And he has never treated me as anything less than a queen. (I hardly deserve that honor).

So why do I blow up when the man compares me to Carmen Electra, Mariah Carey, and Shakira? Because I DO NOT see myself in them. I see three stunning women who are about as far from me as the moon.

However, after a "lovely" argument at 4:30 "his" morning, and later a far more level headed conversation with my friend Ginger, I realize that yeah, maybe it's possible that Al looks at these beautiful and talented women and sees me in them. Why? because...he thinks I am beautiful and talented.

Funny how we just can't imagine people would view us in that light. I love you Al...and I'm sorry.

Football

I'm being chewed for not writing, but I've nothing to write. Or rather don't feel like taking the time to write. So I've decided to meet you half way. Here is a photo of Greg at last nights practice. He was so cute I had to snap this shot with my phone (my camera is still in M.C.'s car from last weekend). So there you are...my boy. Have a good one!

Happy Halloween?

I just dropped Marsha and Greg off at the Youth Center Halloween dance. It is there that they were to meet up with a group of friends and party until 10:00. Being that this is a Halloween party, the kids were to dress up (if they so chose). Of course, there was no way they were going to pass up that opportunity, so dress up they did.

Unfortunately Greg's costume this year is big, heavy, and hot...so we had decided that just for tonight he would dress up as something other than "Mr. Hyde". And what costume did we finally decide on? Marsha. Yep...Greg went to the dance as Marsha. He was a little leery at first, but I convinced him it would be hilarious (as it was). The REAL Marsha lent him her clothes, belt, bracelet, shoes, nail polish and the famous necklace that she hasn't removed in 5 years. We flopped a blonde wig on his head and viola...instant Marsha.

Marsha dressed up as a "goth girl". She looked cute. Too cute. In fact if her daddy were here he would've made her change into a football uniform I'm sure. Ah well. There are very few perks to daddy being away...I suppose this would be considered one.

The kids both looked great. I'm sure they will have a fantastic time.

Quickie

I A-D-O-R-E Robin Williams. I just needed to say that.

Midnight Curry Run

Decided at midnight that curry sounded absolutely divine. So Cindy and I left the rest of the kiddoes asleep in their beds and made the run to CoCo's (ah, the perks of not having to wake for school)!

There she is in her p.j.'s and slippers grinding on some tasty sausage curry. During the drive home she told me the curry made her sleepy (not so sleepy, however, that she couldn't scream the lyrics of Don't Fear the Reaper out her open window). Now she is crashed out in mama's bed.

CoCo's, our tummies are eternally thankful!

Wonder of Wonders

So this afternoon Greg had his initial football weigh in. At age eleven the boy is tipping the scale at a whopping 67 lbs. Considering the boys in his league can weigh up to 120, I'm thanking God that my child can run fast!!

Anyway, after recording his weight they sent us back to a room with huge towering shelves teaming with helmets. Greg was to try a few on, find a good fit, and sign for it. No problem, G.M. boys were there, so I wouldn't have to figure out what a "good fit" should be.

Seconds after stepping foot into this room I glanced up and saw the most beautiful helmet imaginable staring down at me. It was as if God himself placed the helmet there and shone a bright light on it at that exact moment. I had to catch my breath...I touched Greg's shoulder and pointed to the third shelf from the top. "I don't care if the thing fits...we have to have it!" He ran and snatched the helmet up, shoved it on his head and wonder of all wonders...IT FIT!!!

It's a little scratched up and a little old, but that's alright. The other boys left with shiny white helmets, but not mine. My son proudly walked out of that warehouse wearing the biggest and brightest smile you can imagine and carrying the only helmet with a logo stenciled across the side......

The Kansas City Chiefs Arrowhead.

And the Heavens were opened, and a bright light shone down on the earth, and the angels sang: "Hallelujah....GO CHIEFS!!"

ooooooh-oh-oh-oooooooh (doing the "tomahawk chop" as I end this.)

My Celebrity Hotties

I've decided it necessary to add my two cents to the wonderful world of bloggers and post my own list of celebrity hotties. Granted this list will be cut drastically short due to my desire to fill my life with other things besides this computer (go figure). Regardless, these hotties are sure to tide you over and perhaps even give you a little insight into the freakish desires that lie within.

Believe it or not, I'm walkin' on air. I never thought I could feel so free-hee-hee. Flyin' away on a wing and a prayer. Who could it be? Believe it or not, it's just me.

Ah yes, The Great American Hero. Sure my love affair with the man only lasted from age three to six, but oh how the memories linger. That blonde curly hair. Those red tights. What toddler couldn't resist?

Animal. My very first "rock star" crush. He was absolutely WILD!!! I mean, honestly, they had to chain him down. How H-O-T!! And just check out that eyebrow. Those teeth. And all that hair!

When it came to the Corey's, you were either a Feldman or a Haim fan. This likely said much about your personality considering Haim portrayed such a sweetie and Feldman...well...did not.

I was, as I'm sure you can imagine, a Feldman fanatic.

Stand By Me still ranks as one of my top favorite movies of all time. I also am a huge fan of The Goonies. And although I can't say they are still among my favorite films, there was a time around the age of eleven when I would rent License to Drive and Dream a Little Dream almost every weekend. Ah yes, those were the days.

While I must admit Hugh Jackman was the hottest Wolverine EVER (Yeah Hugh, you should be on this list...you bonafide hottie you), the truth is, my heart will always belong to The Beast.

He's big and strong, a little hairy, and oh so intelligent. (You can tell because he wears those glasses, or is that because he's old?) No matter. He is still a major hottie.

Sir Sean Connery. Ahhhhhhhh. Like a fine wine, the man only gets better with age. I find him far more alluring now that he is a bit older than I ever could have as - Bond, James Bond.

Gary Oldman as Bram Stoker's Dracula. Oh Yeeeah! It might be the pure sensuality the man exudes, or perhaps it's just those amazing teeth. Either way, he makes me melt.

Hugh Grant. I really don't give a rats rear what the man was caught doing whenever and wherever. He's a cutie. Heck maybe all that drama made him even hotter....curious.

Jack Black. Funny, wild, loud, and a little off. He makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside...in a filthy dirty sort of way.

Oh Dave. Sweet, Sinful, Delectable Dave. He is Y-U-M-M-Y. I can't even nail this down to one particular reason. His music, his ink, his piercings, his eyes. So yummy. Dave Navarro is definitely, without a doubt...fighting for #1 on my all time hottie list. Did I mention that i think he is yummy?

Okay, so I don't really swing that way, but if I did...I'd be swinging towards Jenny McCarthy. She is cute, funny, and oh so brazen. I think her absolutely fabulous. A definite hottie.

Matt Kennedy Gould (a.k.a. Joe Schmo) Don't ask me...I don't know. His personality is spectacular and I'm fairly sure it is what makes him such an unbelievable hottie. I didn't even realize that I thought he was a hottie until a few weeks ago while watching Battle of the Network Reality Stars with Kim. I was mesmerized. You Go Joe er..um..Matt.

And my final hottie...Oh yes...Those of you who know me know all too well my great obsession with the stunning Johnny Depp. Eccentric and mysterious, this man has it all. A good many of my friends and family think me insane to be fascinated by such a man...yes people I said fascinated. It rarely happens, but occasionally lightning strikes and fascination does indeed overcome me. And Mr. Depp certainly is lightning. Odd, my first thought was to say "Johnny Depp, there are no words." But I managed to find some didn't I. Mmmmmmm.

Well there you have it folks. My short list of Celebrity Hotties. Kudos to all those who made the list, and my deepest apologies for those who did not. Not to worry, there's always next time.

Peace

Ah...10:27 pm on a Sunday night. The kiddoes are fast asleep and I am brewing a pot of freshly ground coffee, watching the Insomniac Tour on Comedy Central, and waiting for the dryer to buzz. (Yes people, I said brewing coffee...I got it like that!)

This is my time. I can clean to my hearts content, watch a little television, even take a stroll around my yard to pick up after a long weekend of dodge ball and trampoline parties. All without any interruptions (save for Sumo's occasional plea to be let out). My house is quiet, the phone isn't ringing, and I can R-E-L-A-X. Woo Hoo!!!

Our weekends are always so busy, even though we rarely leave the neighborhood. This house is reminiscent of Grand Central Station, with not only my six kids in and out, but all of their little friends as well.

"Mommy, can I have a snack? And can Lamar have one too?" "Momma, Isaac scraped his knee and needs a band-aid." "Mommy, Lauren's house is too far away. Can she use our restroom?" "Mom, can Jonathan come in to play the playstation?" "Hey mom, Shelby and I are gonna be on the phone in my room." "Momma, Jenny and I are going to play barbies." For heaven's sake, how many friends do these kids really need?!

If the kids get too awfully bored then I turn into "Mommy chauffeur". Driving the kids to the movie theater, the store, friends houses across town, and the never-ending stream of birthday parties. Ah yes and lest we forget that football season in almost upon us. Thus our Friday nights and Saturday mornings will soon be jam packed with games as well. Oh sweet Jesus! How ever will we survive!?!?!?!

No matter. It's only the weekend. Two days a week of chaos, then we can return to our weekly schedule. (Which is only chaotic after 3:00 pm) Writing a Thank You note to the Superintendent of Schools as we speak.

Ah the aroma of coffee beckons me...as does the buzz of the dryer. Off to my "end of the weekend" duties. Sweet Silence.

My New Man

It's October. Time to summon a little creativity and gear up for all the upcoming costume parties.

Here's a photo of me, "Somethinmirelda", and my new man "Ja" (aka: K.L.). She won best costume tonight at Bunko (picture...poker night, only with women, dice, & prizes!).

Funniest part of the evening? Driving to Camp Shields and having to stop at the Guard Gate. I hand the man my ID. He glances at it, uninterested...eyes K.L. in the passenger seat...and says, "Excuse me sir, do you have an ID?"

I break into laughter. "Ma'am. You mean ma'am." I'm tearing up now and can barely breathe. K.L. is laughing and attempting to lift her wig to prove that she is a woman. The poor MP didn't know what to say. "Uh, okay. Just go ahead". Yep, she's my new guy now.

Oh and Al...look closely...my hair is LONG in this photo. That's as close as you're gonna get babe.

Kamikaze

Last Thursday afternoon, on a whim, I bought a white parakeet. Originally the bird was to go to either Marsha or Greg, but he was so strikingly beautiful I decided to house him in the antique bird cage that hangs in my entry. K.L. and I both agreed that his white against the dark metal would be stunning.

Unfortunately, during my ER run on Friday this bird somehow managed to break free and drown himself in a bathtub full of water. (Obviously this was a bath that had been run, but never utilized by one of my children...eh hem, Bobby).

The kids returned home from school only a few minutes before I hobbled through the door. This is when they realized the mystery that had befallen our humble home. Did someone come in our house just to drown this innocent little bird? Surely not. A ghost, perhaps. A ghost must had set the winged thing free only to seal it's doom. I seriously doubt it.

What did happen to such a poor little creature? G.M., K.L. and I assessed the scene and came to this conclusion: The bars on the birdcage are, at least, an inch apart. The bird must have shimmied his little body free of the prison that held him, at which point he likely flew directly into the bathroom (the cage hang very near that door). From there all remains a mystery.

I am privy to think that I am the ONLY woman on the face of the earth who could find and buy a depressive, suicidal bird. It's pathetic really, utterly pathetic.

"Footpick"

About an hour after my last post I somehow magaged to inpale my foot with a toothpick. GOOD TIMES!!

After attempting to pull it out myself I decided to drive to K.L.'s to give her a whack at it. No luck. We seemed to have accomplished nothing more than making my foot even MORE tender and MORE swollen. So off to the ER I went.

Thankfully no one seems to need ER services on a Thursday morning. They took me straight up to x-ray (this I found brilliant considering the toothpick was WOOD and very likely not going to show on film), and decided we had to cut it open.

After nine...yes NINE shots to numb the ball of my foot, the doctor pulled out his scalpel. "Is this going to make you nervous or ill?" he asked. I giggled. "No. If I can manage to give birth to 6 kids and do my own piercings I think I can handle a scalpel." And we were off. He cut my foot and pulled out a lovely inch long piece of toothpick.

It took a good 20 minutes for my foot to fianlly stop bleeding. Then they wrapped me up, told me to stay off it, and sent me on my merry way.

What a morning. And all I wanted to do was clean my house.

See my smile?!

I'm glad...really glad...so very very glad...that R.L. is still here on island...really. Even though the man was supposed to leave this week. I'm thrilled...really. See my smile?!

You see, I'm perfectly comfortable saying this sarcastically because everyone, including R.L., knows that deep down I am truly thrilled for their family. Time home with the guys is always precious as it happens so sparingly. We need this time to live life as A FAMILY. I LOVE having Al home (K.L...does not. *wink*). So knowing that K.L. has a little much needed time with her husband brings me joy.

On the other hand, we wives (like our husbands) are used to living our lives...alone. Which means I am used to having K.L. to "myself" for lack of a better term. And visa versa. When the guys are gone we are free to do coffee, lunch, shopping, playdates, dinner and a movie at her house, dinner and a movie at my house, or dinner and a movie OUT. Whatever and whenever it may be...we are free to hang out...together

So as much as I dig K.L. having her man back, I still miss my friend. Before you ask...YES, we really are cut off from one another. It is our unspoken credo "Men walk in, Friends walk out." This is as much at the request of our husbands as ourselves. The only way to avoid this dilemma is when Al and R.L. have overlapping time at home (which rarely happens). So pretty much...yeah, cut off.

After a bit of time passes, we tend to find ourselves stealing away moments. For instance, after work yesterday R.L. took a short nap, at which point K.L. and I ran to the pet store together. This may not seem like much, but it gave us time to talk and time to laugh. I have to admit, both K.L. and I were somewhat bummed as it was a perfect evening for moving our laughter to Starbuck's. However, the phone call from R.L. reminded us that we didn't have the time. Oh well, you take what you can get.

Before you decide to send me a "hate comment" for being so terribly selfish, please note this: I am fully aware of my bellyaching. I am also fully aware that I am not the only one who suffers through "temporary friendship loss". G.M., H.M., J.J., I could name a multitude. Anyone associated with a "wife" will at one time or another feel the fullness of this loss. Heck, even the readers of this blog knew that loss for a time. It happens...I get that.

You also need to be aware that as much as I want to hang out with K.L. again, I will be the very one praying to God after R.L. leaves, that he return home quickly. I would rather live every day without K.L. than watch her live a moment without R.L. Well, maybe not EVERY day, but still...I'd rather him be home.

I am doing my bellyaching now, and K.L. will be doing hers early next year when Al is home and R.L. is not. This is the cycle of our lives. The reality of our friendship. For eight years we have helped one another through the ups, through the downs, and through everything in between. Trust me she knows what I am going though...because she's been here.

All I can say is that right now I am just glad R.L. is home...glad...really glad...so very very glad.

H-N-T

In honor of my very first HALF-NEKKID THURSDAY....a photo for your veiwing pleasure (or disgust). Thanks K.L. for lending your foot to this venture! Happy Thursday All!! Hehehehehe!!!

Kyle

I wanted to post this photo of Kyle & Maliea. I just hung up the phone from a lengthy conversation with my brother and I don't think he knows what it's done for me. I am smiling.

Because you are the best brother in the world. Because all my childhood memories are sweeter with you in them. Because you make me smile when I can't find any other reason to. Because we can talk for hours about everything...and nothing at all. Because after all these years you still know me, and love me in spite of it all. I love you Kyle. And I love Maliea for loving you. There's no one I'd rather had been "just me & you" with. I still think you are wonderful, little brother. I always will.

Where's your smile?

In light of the recent phone call I received in which I was informed that the "black" photo of me was frightening, I have decided to add a different photo for your viewing pleasure. Things are better. Cindy and I have been spending an absurd amount of time watching Dora and Diego.

I never did make it out to run those errands yesterday, but I did manage to clean all the kids rooms. They look pretty fantastic I must say. Cindy and I weeded through closets and dressers, toy boxes and under beds. Now I need to work on the rest of the house. Sometimes you just need to cleanse. I'm not completely convinced that is what I am doing however. I tend to think it's just something to keep me busy. But whatever, one does what they must....

Hope that something spectacular comes along to blog about soon, or at the very least something upbeat!

*****

I'm not in a real happy place right now. Al is gone, which always seems to throw me over the edge. Also having trouble with the kids. Why can't things ever go smoothly when he walks out the door? I've been cleaning all morning and now need to run errands which I would really rather not have to run. I can feel myself toppling into that "I don't want to see anyone or talk to anyone" mode. Not a good thing, not a good thing at all.

My Good-Bye

Here's to extra large bottles of Heineken and funny porn. To hiding bottles and bras before elevator arrivals. To finding our "Sugar Daddy". To number 38 and 69 pole dancing till 1am. To uncontrollable hospital laughter, dancing out the gate, and black river tours. To paging "Mary Jane", swan ballet at Starbucks, and Oktoberfest at Foster. To late night Twizzler runs and Elephant sightings. To catching fish, meetings at Good Times, I-POD's, JackDaniel's, and tequila shots.

Go find yourself my friend! Take hold of all the world has to offer. The future is yours!

With all my love...Here's to choosing "Heather".

Sick

I'm going downhill...fast.

For the last three days I have barely seen the light of day. I am sick. Horribly, terribly, utterly sick. My throat is all but closed completely. I'm hot, I'm cold, I'm achey, I'm feverish, and I'm wiped out. The one and only time I did manage to venture out, five of my friends told me I looked as if I was standing on death's doorstep. Thanks guys.

Al has been amazing. He calls the kids in the mornings to make sure they are up and readying for school. He calls them in the afternoon to check that they are doing homework. When he finally gets home, he cleans the house, does the laundry, makes dinner, and cares for me. I am so thankful for him. What a wonderful man! Whatever will I do without him?

Sorry to end this so abruptly, but I've just hit my wall. I need to rest. Later!

Awake

It's 2am and I can't sleep again. What is it exactly that keeps one up night after night. My mind isn't busy running over all the events of the day. Nor is it making lists of all I've to accomplish tomorrow. In fact, most nights I simply lay awake with a mind numbing sense of boredom.

Usually, when sleep eludes me, I find myself writing...letters, poetry, songs, just about anything to keep me busy. When it is late at night I am never overly insightful or thought provoking. In fact it would be safe to say that most of my insomniatic writings are simply over-thought chicken scratch. Anyone who has had the misfortune of receiving one of my late night (or early morning after no sleep) e-mails can attest to that. My apologies if you are one of the unlucky few to be on my "insomniac hit list".

If nothing else, my writings are amusing. Usually they are the things I laugh at the following day when the peace of night has passed away and the busyness of life grounds me. They are always good for a few giggles or a roll of the eyes before being wadded up and rightly tossed in the garbage.

Nothing interests me at this exact second. Continuing on with this entry seems senseless as I've nothing in particular to write about. But when I consider the alternatives...laying in bed staring at the ceiling, flipping through a continuous stream of television channels, or re-reading an old novel...I just can't seem to close this blog.

The quiet in this house is deafening. I should be thankful for it as there are a good many who can't find a single moment of silence in which to rest their minds. Odd how the quiet for some can often be as loud as the noise for others.

Okay, ending this. Hoping sleep will come quickly so not to risk boring everyone to tears with yet another blog entry or heaven forbid a yawn-inspiring e-mail (wink). Rest well.

Forgotten Evening

Here are a couple photos from Al's party Friday night. We had a good time (I think). Neither Al or I had anything to eat before we went out, so it made for an interesting evening. Despite the fact that we had intended on being home early since Alex was scheduled to work the next day. Sometimes things just don't go according to plan.

After 6 hours of double Jack 'n Coke's and countless shots of B52's Al pretty much hit his wall. The taxi did manage to get us home with minimal directing from me (thanks to Boone and his foresight)!! Unfortunately, no one could foresee Al waking to find his wallet missing. I ended up driving him into work and immediately beginning my search for his wallet, rather than crawling back into bed as originally planned.

I checked at The Cove, in the parking lot, our front yard, and every nook and cranny of our house. When the wallet didn't turn up, Alex called the cab company (not an easy feat when you don't speak Japanese). Still, nothing.

At this point the search had become a group effort, enlisting help from the kids, Kim, and friends from the party. Finally, around five, a message was received from The Banyan Tree: "We have Mr. Holt's wallet." WHOOPPEE!!!!!

Turns out the taxi was called to that club after dropping us off at home. Whomever hopped in that cab next must have found the wallet and turned it in (after extracting their "finders fee", that is). Thankfully, I was the lucky woman in charge of money at the party, which means our wallet rescuer only made off with about $40.00. With everything else in place, we considered it a small price to pay.

Needless to say, it was a memorable night (or not, I can't remember). I only hope Al will look back on it with such fondness.

Birthday Boy

HE'S 30!!!!!!! Yesterday was the big day! Al is no longer twenty-something.

Since the big day fell on a Tuesday, Alex really didn't have much chance to sleep in...not that he didn't try. He is usually out of bed by 4:00, but managed to hit that snooze button until 5:15. When he finally did join the land of the living (not that there are many to join at that hour) he was greeted by fresh coffee and cinnamon rolls. That's right folks, I woke up and made breakfast (I can mange once every 30 years!!).

Knowing full well that Al was wanting to keep his birthday "on the down-low", Micaiah and I decided to drop in on him just before lunch. Thanks to a few well placed guys in the team room, we were able to thoroughly embarrass the man. There's nothing like opening your office door to find a miniature grim reaper delivering balloons and inviting you out to soba.

After work Al was greeted at home by cards, gifts, and lasagna (his favorite). And for dessert a strawberry cheesecake topped with an emergency candle (I'm not sure we could've fit 30 candles on there).

I think it was a good birthday. I HOPE it was a good birthday. Of course, there is still the weekend.

And for those of you curious...yes, I bought a new digital camera. I couldn't very well capture this milestone on a camera phone could I?

Anchorage, Okinawa

So it's a little cold in my house...big deal.

I find that 76 is a nice reasonable indoor temerature during the summer months. Plenty cool enough to get that smack of air when you walk in from the heat of the day. However two days ago the thermastat in our house was replaced and now I can barely get that thing to inch over 61. Here it is, the middle of September, and I am walking around in flannel pajamas, a huge fleece robe and fuzzy slippers. My toes have offically turned into ice cubes and I am fairly positive there is an icesicle forming on the tip of my nose.

Poor Alex...He must be having flashbacks of our winters spent in Colorado or Washington. I spent the entire afternoon huddled on the couch trying to snuggle my feet up under his sweatshirt for a little warmth. I'm pretty sure I sent him flying through the roof a few times. I feel terrible...really I do. But it isn't my fault he is so darn warm blooded, my cold toes-ies ache to be against his skin. hehehehe!!

I have to admit, at first it was kind of fun. Big sweaters, cuddling close to the one you love, drinking hot cocoa, watching movies while wrapped in a big fluffy blanket. It was like mid-autumn back home. In fact, I think the leaves of my house plants will begin to change soon. Unfortunatly my family doesn't view this in quite the same way I do. The kids are whiny, my husband is cranky, and everyone is too damn cold to move. It sort of makes me want to hybernate!

The night before last, Ashton readied for bed by donning sweatpants, an oversized sweater, and two pairs of socks. And tonight I went to kiss Tristyn good-night and saw that she and Micaiah both were huddled under her mink blanket wearing jackets. By tomorrow Kayl should be finished with the firepit he is constructing at the foot of his bed. Either that or everyone will take to sleeping on the trampoline so to enjoy the warmth the night air has to offer.

Okay, so my house is freezing...it's just that I can't seem to figure this new thermostat out. My last one was digital. When you wanted 76, you pressed the button untill it read 76. Duh, a monkey could've worked the thing. Now there are little lines and dots (lines and dots suck). And the numbers aren't even directly under the line or dot they should be, so I am left to guess. Don't the thermostat makers know that I am terrible at guessing? For heavens sake, my children are going to die of hypothermia all because of a bunch of lines and dots!!!

Ah well. Eventually I should figure this doohicky out..but until then my family shall remain at the north pole.

Ice anyone??

Study Group

School is in full force which means every day my kids tote home loads of homework.

I was never much for homework. I'm sure I must have had homework in my classes as a child, but I really don't remember spending too much time on it. Did my grades suffer? Sure they did, but not to the extent one might imagine. My report cards were simply average. Later on in highschool I prided myself on not having to study for tests. Fortunately memorization came very quickly and naturally to me. Read a book...pass a test. If I was lucky enough to have a teacher that loved writing information on the board...all the better! That info just stuck (many thanks to Mr. Reynolds-sociology & psychology-grades 11 & 12). Heck, I even remember making the honor roll a couple of times and never cracking a book. All this and I graduated with two babies. Can you imagine how well I would've done had I applied myself in class? (Yes mom, I get it now!!)

Unfortunately, my lack of study skills are now coming back to haunt me. I have such a VERY difficult time teaching my children HOW to study. One would think this task to be simple, but let me assure you, it is not. It's much like tossing a city girl in front of a dairy cow and telling her to milk it. You know it can be done, and perhaps have even witnessed it first hand, but the actual ACT of milking seems all together foreign.

So here I am, 28 years old, baffled at how, besides reading them over and over, I can get these vocabulary words to stick in the mind of my 2nd grader. Begging my 5th grader to look over the map again for his impending geography test, because I truly don't know how on earth one would study a map. Or pleading with my 6th grader to go over her flash cards just once more, without giving her the impression that math is my nemesis. It is the one thing that completely eludes me.

I am thankful however. This "memorization" ability is seemly passed down from generation to generation. My mother is a brilliant woman and so is Alex's mom. And whether or not he would ever admit it to anyone, studying comes very naturally to Alex. He simply doesn't struggle. Now my theory is proving true in my own children. Most of our kids have no trouble with spelling tests (Ash obviously inherited some throw-back gene from an ancestor with terrible spelling). On the other hand most things really do stick in her mind if she focuses enough to absorb them.

Math comes very naturally to both Isreal and Tristyn (they obviously did not get this from me). As a matter of fact, damn near everything comes naturally to Israel and Tristyn who must have gotten hit with the study stick at birth. Kayl on the other hand struggles a bit more than the other kids. Thankfully though,he applies himself like no child I have ever seen. I have to admit there is something to be said for someone who has to work a bit harder for what they want. It will carry him far in life.

What am I most thankful for this year? Ashton and two of her friends from class began a study group. We all live in the same neighborhood, which makes alternating houses easy. And all the girls get along (most of the time) which is a feat in itself when you are discussing 12 year old girls. So basically a couple times a week 3 pre-teens invade my dining room, eat and drink everything within reach and ask me questions about fractions and Egyptian pyramids. Whatever, Ash is getting her homework finished and I don't even have to listen to her complain that life is passing her by while I force her nose into a book. It's like killing two birds with one stone, she socializes and passes her classes. Thank heaven for small miracles!

Life is good, school is good, and my laundry is done. Who could ask for more!!

Brady Bunch Visits Ireland

You have a baby...in a bar!!

Well, Alex finally talked me into draggin the kids down to our local pub "Paddy Mac's" to introduce them to the infamous Martin. They had a blast. Daddy taught them how to play darts. Martin filled their tummies with soda, fish 'n chips, shepherds pie, and apple pie. And Yoko gave Ashton the grand tour as well as introducing the girls to the "bar cat".

After two cokes Israel announced that he thought he may be drunk. He also found an outlet to show off his God given talent...the tummy roll. We always new it would be a great bar trick.

Tristyn and Micaiah were doing cola races (much like carbombs for minors). Braeden, we found, has one hell of an arm for darts. And Ashton may very well have found her calling as she decided she was going to become Martin's apprentice and then move back to the states to open her own Irish Pub.

All in all it was a fabulous evening. The only downside...the kids have decided they will no longer be eating at Burger King. The future is full of Fish 'n Chips!!!

Say Cheese!

Bad camera phone photo of me and a couple of my girlfriends. That's Ginger there on the left and Heather on the right. Thankfully that night some poor sap felt sorry for us and offered to take our photo. Just prior to this shot we were all attempting to get a decent picture by holding our phones out at arms length. Shockingly, they just weren't coming out as we had hoped. Curious.

I'm slappin' this photo on here because I've nothing too terribly exciting to report. I also thought this the easiest way to answer the few requests I've had to send photos of my now black hair....well, there ya go. I have another photo of my hair that Ash took, but I haven't the guts to post it as it might be the most frightening thing I've seen since Amittyville! HAHAHA!!

Anyhoooo...Al is home, kids begin school next week, and life is good. Couldn't ask for more. Hope all is just as well for ya'll.

The Classics

Sean Connery is H-O-T!!!

I was watching First Knight earlier today and for the life of me I couldn't take my eyes off the man. I mean seriously, he's something like 75 and still he may be one of the hottest men alive.

What is it about older men that is so attractive? Maybe they are a little more distinguished, a little more refined, or a little more wise. (or maybe it's that damn accent....gets ya every time!) Whatever it is, it's working.

Now here I am watching The Upside of Anger and I've got to tell you...Kevin Costner is a hottie too. He's funny & witty. He even looks good with a little gray. Man...Kevin Costner is fine! (wink)

Al HATES that I find older men attractive. He thinks it is disgusting. HAHAHA! I giggle at the thought! Hell, he should be thrilled about it. He's gonna be older one day too. In fact, he already is to some people! Even if he'd rather not admit it.

Now, don't go thinking that I've gone off the deep end. I'm not looking to hook up with some 100 year old, transparent skinned, gummy smiled, liver spotted, oxygen tanked, Depends wearin', wheelchair bound, great-great grand daddy. I mean honestly...one must draw the line somewhere. But whatever...to each his own.

Think I'll get back to Kevin Costner now. He'll just have to do until September 13th when Alex turns 30. That's when I'll really be livin' my dream...hahaha! Just messin'

p.s. Ashton just read this over my shoulder and is laughing hysterically. She asked if I think George W. is a hottie too....you know what? I'm proud to say...I do.

Lazy

I need to get off my rear-end and do something....anything.

I just CAN NOT get motivated! The house is clean, although I have plenty of laundry to keep me busy if I so choose. I need to go through closets and dressers, but they remain untouched. And my lawn desperately needs mowed, but the grass is left to grow another day. It's just one of those days. I've no gumption whatsoever.

I can't even finish typing a BLOG. I've begun three this morning, every one of which is sitting in my drafts folder. The creative spark even seems to elude me. All I've managed to do today is walk across the street (in my pj's) to give Ginger some wall anchors and make Kayl a dental appointment. Pathetic. My bed hasn't even been made. I'd like to tell you that I've been laying in it reading all day, but I would be lying. I've done nothing more than veg in front of the television. BLAH!!!

There's just nothing pressing enough to drag me out of my stupor. Not that it would matter, I would probably ignore anything that tried to light a fire under my a**. But as luck would have it I've no one to talk to...or see. No appointments, no lunch dates. Nothing. I told the kids we would go buy shoes later, but later is not now, so why hurry?

In fact it would probably be best to end this before dragging others into my pit of boredom.

Hope your day is more fruitful than mine!

Boots & Spurs

Okay, I am writing this PRIOR to Al's approval of my going out tomorrow night. This may come as a shock to some of you as I rarely ask Alex's approval for such mundane things, however I have decided to allow him the pleasure of "feeling" in charge. (Just messin' baby.)

Anyway, my girlfriend Ginger has been begging me for MONTHS to accompany her to Western World. Somehow I've always managed to blow her off...until now. Tomorrow night I will suck up my pride and walk into that cowboy bar to watch the "mechanical bull rodeo". ~OH-KAY~

Nah, the truth is, I've been there a couple times. It's alright. It reminds me of home....only I am on an island in the middle of the sea watching little Okinawans line dance. I always feel so completely out of place in there. Although I know all the songs. Yes, to those of you sitting with your mouths hanging open, I know who Kenny Chesney, Brad Paisley, and Lee Ann Womack are. In fact in may surprise you to know that given my druthers, in a karaoke contest I'd likely be singing a Trisha Yearwood song long before a Gwen Stefani one. Regardless, I hardly look like a belong in a country bar. Not that anyone cares. Last time I was there I watched an Okinawan lady dressed like 80's Madonna and wearing Reeboks do the Watermelon Crawl. Hehehe! Just having a little visual here. Funny stuff.

Tomorrow should make for an interesting evening. It will please my grandmother to know that I will be spending my evening drinking $3.00 bottles of WATER. That's one thing I can do to put my husband at ease while he is away. No Jack Daniels for me...nope...no-sir-eee! I do hope Ginger appreciates this. If I REALLY like it I might even buy some boots. Just call me Gretchen Wilson! Yeah...right. We'll see how it goes. I'm gonna take it slow.

HEY! Maybe if I'm lucky I can get one of my other pierced, tattooed, "Seether-listening" friends to join us. I think I'll go call Heather.

Old Photos

I just came across this photo of Al and I at our wedding. He had just shoved cake down my dress ~nice~. 11 years ago. ~memories flood my mind~ Wild.

*blah*

I am going CRAZY!! (hold your comments, please) I can not stand this house any longer.

Currently a bookshelf stands empty in the center of my living room. Vases, photos, and various odds and ends litter my table top. The curtains and rug are being debated in my mind. And all the while my living area remains in a state of limbo. I have become completely blase' about my house. The color (or lack thereof), the furniture, and the basic lack of space threaten to push me over the edge of insanity.

I adore all the furniture I painstakingly sought out and purchased at the beginning of the year. Large, dark, and teak...the pieces are visually stunning as well as functional. However, the few items I've left from before now look drab and sadly out of place. The entertainment center seems to be the main source of my grief. It is too tall, too light, too bland. It matches nothing in the house and takes up more space than I am willing to give. I despise it.

A couple of months ago I found the entertainment center of my dreams. A beautifully crafted work of art that would hide my television (this is essential) and accent my home perfectly. And if that alone wasn't enough...there was a matching Step Tansu. What luck!! It was as if they had been designed soley for the purpose of residing in my home. Unfortunately, someone else obviously felt the same because when I returned to buy them, they were gone. Such a loss!!

Besides my "entertainment woes" I also need to solve my DVD storage dilemma. Before, they had been arranged alphabetically on a bookshelf. This was convenient and functional, however, unsightly. If you hadn't already guessed, I am a stickler about hiding things away. Anyhooo...I know that I want a tall, teak cabinet to stand in the corner of my living room. Something decorative & beautiful with plenty of space to hold our ever growing DVD collection. Now just to find it.

Poor Al. He is going to have a conniption fit when he reads this. I do hope someone is standing near by who knows CPR.

That fact is...I have become antsy here. Three years in this teensy house. I am going out of my mind. I've arranged and re-arranged a thousand times. I've simply used this place to the fullest of my creative ability. It is time for a new palette.

What I wouldn't give for a home painted in warm, inviting hues. I swear, sometimes I feel as though I may drown in a sea of off-white, lead-based flakes. ~Help me! Help me! cough-sputter-spit~ Honestly, whose bright idea was it to paint every inch of wall inside and out beige. I know...I get the whole "off-white for rental houses" thing, but PAH-LEEZ!!!

*hehehe* The thought just crossed my mind. When I was young I used to joke that my grandma would work and work to perfect the decor of a house. When she had finally gotten it just right...she would pick up and move only to start all over again. I must take after her.

An empty house stirs the imagination. I love walking into a new space and creating from it a comfortable, inviting home where family & friends alike can sit back, smile and relax. It offers so many possibilities. One of these days.

Until then, I guess I'll just continue to perfect this "little slice of heaven".

Bang Bang!

Look at my beautiful baby! Alex snapped this photo at Organizational Day last month. It was hot at Hades that day! Never-the-less we had a fabulous time. Can't believe summer is already winding down. It was a good one.

PC Woes

Oh! How I hate this thing!

My computer is driving me insane! The silly thing shuts off whenever it feels the need, and won't turn back on no matter how I plead and beg, pray and whine. Don't ask me what the problem is, I simply haven't the foggiest.

Al told me to take it in to be serviced. Fine. But first I had to get the silly thing to turn on long enough to make sure all my music was backed up. I don't know what they'll do when they clean this thing out. My luck...nothing. They'll just tell me that it is crap & I need a new one. GGGRRR!!!

Okay, on to bigger & better conversation. I'm near finished school shopping. This brings a great deal of joy to my heart. However in just the last two weeks Ashton has sprouted enough that her size 10's are now high-waters. I now have to return all her jeans (thank heaven she didn't wear them!!) and buy 12 slims.

School starts in 21 days!!

Alex left today. **boo hoo hoo** I am beside myself. Although it really is a bit of a laugh. He is going to be gone 2 weeks. TWO WEEKS!!!! No big deal at all.

No news on Kayl's tooth as of yet. We are hoping the brace will come off soon as the wire digs into his lip a bit. In the mean time he's had to keep wax on the end of the wire. He might as well be wearing braces. Good news...his tooth hasn't changed colors, so I am hopeful that it is indeed still alive.

Really & truly not much else has been happening here. Summer doddles along and we doddle with it. Nothing particularly exciting, nothing particularly new. Hope everyone is having as relaxing a summer as we.
